TIME MACHINES REPAIRED hits 50,000 words!
It's been a long slog these past several weeks, but it seems to be paying off. Today, after some seriously hardcore banging of the flippers on the keyboard, I brought the MS total up to a healthy 50,000 words. This has been an important goal all along. Only when a book MS gets to 50K does it start "feeling" like it might really be a rooly-trooly book. Up to that point, it could all go pear-shaped, because it hasn't "gelled" or whatever. 50,000 words is also roughly the half-way point, which is great, too. Currently I'm about four days ahead of "the curve" (which is based on a rate of 1000 words per weekday; I've hit the 50K about four days ahead of schedule). This puts me in good shape to reach the end of the book before the August 31 deadline.
And now, because I love shiny things, here's a handy visual representation of what I've just told you:

There is some other good news about this book, too, but I'm waiting to hear from Publisher Brian about it before I reveal all.
Now if the weather would get a bit warmer, all would be well.
UPDATE: four hours later
Last Friday Publisher Brian sent me a contract for the new book. This is the first time he's sent me a contract for a book that's not even finished yet. It's also good news in that the advance has gone up--w00t!
